A true force of nature, Marc Márquez is back for the umpteenth time in MotoGP Having injured the fifth metatarsal in his right foot and undergone surgery immediately after the French Grand Prix sprint, Marc Márquez also had an operation to correct a persistent problem in his right shoulder. Since his injury in Indonesia, the reigning world champion had been riding with screws and plates in his shoulder. Naturally, he missed the Catalan Grand Prix, but will participate in Mugello.
Present in Italy this weekend, Marc Márquez had not yet won the battle against his various injuries. He had to undergo a series of preliminary tests to determine his fitness to participate in Free Practice 1 initially, and then in the rest of the race. "The problem was that my shoulder would give out without causing any pain; I never knew when it was going to give out," the Ducati rider elaborated on this Thursday from Mugello. The doctors removed my doubts with the operation, especially because we found a cause. There was a screw which, after the fall in Indonesia, moved two millimeters and was putting a little pressure on the brachial plexus. I understood it perfectly during the test at Jerez, where I was able to ride without the adrenaline, and I understood what I was lacking; that's when I saw that something was happening."
Although his speed wasn't the most impressive on Friday morning, the fact remains that MotoGP doctors have confirmed that Marc Márquez will be present for qualifying and the Grand Prix, barring any unforeseen problems. The question now is how well he will perform in such conditions, especially given that he has been seen in the paddock wearing safety boots.
