Marc Márquez equals Giacomo Agostini and breaks numerous records at Assen

Marc Márquez has written a new page in his history in MotoGP this Sunday at Assen, winning his 68th victory in the premier class. He thus equals the legend Giacomo Agostini as the second most successful driver in the history of the championship. Only Valentino Rossi, with 89 successes, is now ahead of the Spaniard in the rankings.

This victory, snatched in a hard-fought battle against Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia), also marks Márquez's third consecutive victory. A run he has not achieved since 2019, when he notched up five consecutive wins between San Marino and Australia.

The race at Assen was particularly intense, with Bezzecchi staying in the world champion's wake throughout the race, without ever being able to take advantage of a real opportunity to overtake him. Márquez eventually crossed the line with a lead of 0,6 seconds, while Francesco Bagnaia completed the podium, more than two seconds behind.. 

This is Márquez's third victory on the Dutch circuit, after 2014 and 2018. He thus equals his garage neighbor, who won every race between 2022 and 2024.

But that's not all when it comes to the Spaniard's dominance statistics. Last weekend's result allowed the Spaniard to record his sixth double of the season (victories in both the Sprint and Grand Prix in the same weekend).

An absolute record since the introduction of Sprint races in 2023, Márquez is also the first driver to achieve three consecutive doubles. He also joins Jorge Martin, the record holder for Sprint victories in a season, with nine.

In the overall standings, the Ducati rider now has 307 points, a 68-point advantage over his brother Alex, who unfortunately suffered a crash at Assen. This total represents a record number of points scored after ten Grands Prix since the introduction of Sprint races, demonstrating Márquez's exceptional consistency at the top of the rankings..
