The GP of the Americas was "a disaster" for Marc Marquez

The 2025 Grand Prix of the Americas at the Circuit of the Americas (COTA) was marked by a rather unexpected event. Marc Marquez, who had dominated the race since the beginning of the season, crashed while leading the race.

Although he was heading straight for a sixth consecutive victory without being troubled, this error saw his hopes of victory collapse on the ninth lap, after an overly optimistic passage on the kerb at turn 5.

After winning pole position and the Saturday Sprint, he gave victory to his teammate and biggest rival for the championship, Pecco Bagnaia.

“It was obviously a big mistake, because I had the race under control, confides Marc Marquez late afternoon in Austin. I was managing the gap, but I cut Turn 5 a bit too hard and lost the front."

Consequences for the ranking 

This crash marks a turning point in the 2025 season. By losing the 25 points promised for victory, Marc Marquez cedes the championship lead to his brother, Alex, who now has 87 points to Marc's 86. Pecco Bagnaia also takes advantage of this situation to close the gap and position himself in third place, with 3 points in the general classification.

“Was it a disaster? Yes, but we are human and sometimes we make mistakes. The good thing is that we are still very close to the top of the table, Marc Marquez emphasizes again. The way I cut the corner was too optimistic. I'm sorry for the team, but tomorrow is a new day and the start of a new week."

Le MotoGP is now turning its attention to the Qatar Grand Prix, which will take place in two weeks. A circuit on which Marc Marquez hopes to bounce back. The Spaniard remains confident about his chances.

"Last year I had my first race weekend with Ducati there, and it went well. We will keep the same approach, trying to understand how to best interpret the circuit." concludes the multiple Spanish champion.
