After a month-long truce, the MotoGP makes a stopover in Spain. A home return for Marc Márquez who is aiming for a rebound after a mixed weekend in Austin, which ended with a fifth place on Sunday, on a circuit which is nevertheless among his favorites.
This lackluster performance can be largely attributed to his crash on Friday. Occurring during free practice, it weighed more heavily on the nine-time world champion than he let on. Losing control at turn 10 of the Circuit of the Americas, the number 93 rider bounced violently several times. The result: injuries to his left hand and right forearm. The same arm that has been causing him pain again since his crash at the Mandalika circuit in Indonesia in the autumn of 2025.
« The fact is, I don't like to complain on the weekend because it doesn't help me. But it was, again, because of my right arm [previously badly injured]. It was hidden; nobody knew., reveals the elder of the Márquez brothers. During the last few races, I was a different driver on Friday, another on Saturday, and yet another on Sunday. My condition worsened with each passing day. »
A true barometer of his physical condition, the position of the Spaniard's elbow on his GP26 left no room for doubt. When you see me with my elbow raised, I'm protecting myself. He explains. When he's down, I attack. »
Markez finally in form
Taking advantage of the spring break, brought about by the postponement of the Qatar Grand Prix initially scheduled for April 10-12, Marc Márquez was able to recover from his injuries and his right forearm has now healed. While his still-prominent scars have astonished the press, the Ducati rider assures everyone that he feels much better physically. This was an important break for me. he told the press on the scene. I have been able to continue my progress and I can say that I am on the right track to perform well here. I feel much better than in previous races; I'm in good shape to run. That doesn't mean I'll be the fastest, but physically, I feel significantly better."To get back in shape, the Spaniard has favoured physical preparation in the gym, more so than on the motorcycle."
Still seeking his 100th world championship victory across all categories, Márquez already has three wins at Jerez. But this time, Aprilia arrives as the favorite at the Ángel Nieto circuit. We've already driven on three different circuits, with three types of tire carcasses and three distinct layouts. And only one winner. recognizes number 93. So, in the end, Bezzecchi is clearly the favorite. He led every lap in the last [Sunday] races. "The Noale brand is therefore aiming for a sixth consecutive victory, after five straight wins by Marco Bezzecchi, the current championship leader with 81 points.
