Marc Marquez unreservedly in Thailand: “An unforgettable weekend”

@Ducati

For eleven years, Marc Marquez has been waiting for this moment. Despite his six world championship titles in MotoGP, the Catalan had only won the first Grand Prix of the season once before. You had to go back to 2014 to see Marquez become the first winner of the year and that year, the number 93 added nine more consecutive victories to his list of achievements.

Before knowing if he will be able to reproduce such a feat in 2025, we must first highlight the excellent performance of the native of Cervera in Thailand: author of the pole position on Saturday, he won the sprint race, then the Grand Prix, with impressive mastery.

“It’s an unforgettable weekend. To start my history with Ducati with a pole and two victories is incredible.” savors the former Honda rider, who had the additional pleasure of receiving the protocol honors alongside his brother Alex (Gresini Ducati), 2nd in the two races of the weekend.

"I win and on top of that, every time my brother comes in second, so you can't dream of anything better than that. He's so talented, he's a hard worker. I'm so happy for him. I can't imagine how proud our parents must be. For my part, the team worked very well, I'm very happy." greets Marc Marquez on Canal+.

Marquez had to manage the pressure… of his tire

However, the Thailand Grand Prix was not a smooth ride for the Ducati rider. Despite an excellent start to the race in steamroller mode, Marc Marquez suddenly braked, to let his brother pass and wedge himself into his wheel. A surprising tactic caused by a tire pressure problem, which could have caused him a penalty.

“Before the race we talked about the tyre pressure, but sometimes during the race I change my riding style a little bit. Today, as I was very fast, I saw that I didn’t have much margin on the allowed pressure limit. When I stayed behind Alex, the pressure started to be better and that allowed me to attack at the end of the race.” decrypts Marquez. “It was very hard to stay so close to Alex. I wanted to be really close because I had no margin and I absolutely wanted to avoid the penalty. It was so hot on the bike, my arms and hands were burning. I said to myself: “I have to do it”. We worked so hard this winter for this, that’s what gave me the chance to be in this position, even if I was a little afraid that Peco would come back at the end, it wasn’t easy.”

By winning both races and taking a clear lead in the championship, Marc Marquez sent a strong message to his teammate Pecco Bagnaia, a double world champion who is looking for a new title after being beaten by Jorge Martin last year. The Italian now knows that regaining his throne will be very difficult…
