The six-time world champion MotoGP almost crashed for the first time this year in a race, after a first fall on Friday in the rain. Leading the Sprint at the Circuit of the Americas, Márquez lost grip on his rear tire. After a near-miraculous recovery, the Spaniard was overtaken by his brother Álex and his teammate Francesco Bagnaia… before passing them both in the last two corners.

The Cervera native explained the reasons behind this error on the Sprint podium. After a rainy Friday and a rather chilly Saturday morning, the sun returned to Austin in the afternoon. As a result, the track warmed up considerably, and grip decreased, causing more sliding, despite the almost unanimous use of the soft rear tire.
“It was really too hot on the first lap! The conditions changed a lot, with the higher temperatures. I was pushing normally in the first laps, like this morning, but suddenly I realized the track had less grip. It was really close, to be honest. The fight with Pecco and Álex was really nice.”
Marquez wants more rear grip for the race
The scenario of the first two Sprints of the season repeated itself this Saturday, however, with Marc Márquez dominating the race. Only his brother could match his pace at the very beginning of the race, but the #93 controlled the situation. Once again delighted with the overall performance of his Ducati, Marc Márquez still believes that his rear end needs to be stabilized for Sunday's Grand Prix.
"When I got into my rhythm, I tried to control the pace, and I made another mistake. I was able to regain the advantage, but we'll have to work on the rear grip between now and tomorrow. Apart from that, the bike is working really well."
