Marc Marquez is still having bad luck. After having to withdraw last week ahead of the Algarve GP due to a slight concussion following a fall in enduro, he will also have to skip the final of the calendar in Valencia.
In the paddock, there was doubt about his absence at Portimao and many thought that the Spaniard was hiding something else. It must be said that the obscurity which has reigned around his physical condition since last year has tended to raise some questions. But we now have confirmation since he presents diplopia (double vision) and paralysis of the fourth right nerve. A nerve that had already been affected during a fall in Malaysia at the end of the 2011 season; an injury which also caused him to miss the title in his first season in Moto2 against Stefan Bradl and which had immobilized him for many months.
These are hard moments, it seems that when it rains, it pours. After visiting Dr. Sánchez Dalmau, a new episode of diplopia (double vision) was confirmed like 2011. We need patience but if I have learned one thing it's to face adversity with positivity. Thanks for your support! 💪🏼 pic.twitter.com/bRN5yop37u

“The examination carried out today on Marc Marquez after the accident he suffered confirmed that the pilot has diplopia and revealed a paralysis of the fourth right nerve with damage to the right superior oblique muscle,” said the doctor. ophthalmologist Sanchez Dalmau. Conservative treatment with periodic checks was adopted to monitor the clinical evolution. This fourth right nerve is the one that was already injured in 2011.”
Note that the eight-time world champion will also miss the first tests of the off-season scheduled for next week on the Jerez circuit.
