Martin does it again in Austria

Nothing was decided for Jorge Martin on Saturday during the Austrian GP. Winner last week on the same circuit of Red Bull Ring from pole position, the rookie this time had to take a detour through Q1 after failing in 13e rank in the combined standings of the three free practice sessions.

But that doesn't matter, Martin set the best time to win his place in Q2 during which fabio quartararo hit hard after five minutes. The Frenchman actually clocked 1'22.677, setting a new record. But in his very last flying lap, Martin responded in time in 1'22.643.

Martin thus became the first rookie to take three pole positions in just seven races in MotoGP. He also became the third driver to go fastest in Q2 after having to go through repechage. Last Sunday, the Spaniard will find Quartararo and Francesco Bagnaia on the first row.

Johann Zarco, the fastest on Friday, will lead the second row ahead of the first Honda of Marc Marquez and another Ducati, that of Jack Miller. Joan Mir signs her second best result with seventh place.

Miguel Oliveira, who also had to go through Q1, will start from ninth position behind Aleix Espargaro.
