Martin still suffering from his injury in Portugal

It's no secret that Jorge Martin excels in the time trial game. Since his debut in Grands Prix in 2015, the Madrilenian has won no less than 24 pole positions, including three in MotoGP.

And after achieving a double in Austria, Martin could have become the very first driver in history (since 1974 and the official referencing of pole positions) to sign four pole positions in eight races in the premier category.

He was close, but he was a little too optimistic in his last flying lap when cutting turn 8. “ I wanted to find the best trajectory and I did it because Marc (Marquez, editor's note) was in front of me, Martin said.. I knew I was going to be in pole position, but in the end I finished fourth. The pace is good and we can fight for the podium tomorrow. »

Even if he did not take pole, Martin still had to share the Parc Fermé with his counterparts on the front row. “ I really liked the Parc Fermé, he said. When I arrived, I said I didn't have pole, that they had to check and let me go back to the box, but I ended up having to go, because I was the first independent driver. It was fun talking with Pecco (Bagnaia) and Fabio (Quarterly)… they were laughing and they said to me: “there is no way you could have done this time”. But in any case we are close, I am a tenth behind and we are fast. »

By climbing onto the podium on Sunday, Martin would become the first rookie to achieve three Top 3 finishes since Marc Marquez in 2013. But the Silverstone track is much more demanding than the Red Bull Ring. Heavily injured in Portugal, Martin admits to having encountered some difficulties this weekend. “ It's a bit like Assen, he emphasized. And that scares me a little, because I had to give up due to tendinitis (in the biceps, editor's note). I feel a bit like there. I feel better for sure, but we have to work for Sunday because the race is long and when it comes to the race I suffer more. I hope it won't be a problem tomorrow. »

Martin leads the front row on Sunday at Silverstone ahead of Marc Marquez and Aleix Espargaro. He thinks he has the pace to get a new podium.
