On the eve of the Italian Grand Prix, Yamaha, which has just appointed Toprak Razgatlıoğlu to its Pramac team for the 2026 season, has announced the contract extension of another new recruit. This Thursday morning, the Iwata factory announced that Andrea Dovizioso will join its test team on a three-year contract.

The Italian driver will wear two hats for Les Bleus: test driver and driver performance advisor, until the end of the 2027 season.

Andrea Dovizioso has already contributed to Yamaha's development in the past. This announcement is therefore the logical continuation of a successful partnership, according to Paolo Pavesio, the brand's director. “Andrea and Yamaha have had a strong relationship for many years. We are delighted to announce that he will remain with Yamaha Factory Racing. MotoGP for three more years."

“Dovi [Andrea Dovizioso] is not only a MotoGP legend, with superb riding skills, He recalls. He also has technical knowledge and can effectively provide feedback to the engineers. This makes him an ideal test rider, of course, but we saw an opportunity to further exploit his talents within Yamaha's MotoGP project."

Dovizioso and Yamaha have a clear vision for their future

As a test driver, Dovizioso will participate in private testing sessions held outside the Grand Prix calendar and may therefore join the peloton on a few occasions as a wildcard. At the same time, he will take on a brand-new role as driver performance advisor, a role aimed at improving the synergy between drivers and engineers.

“In addition to his signing as a test driver, we are delighted to see him take on the new role of Driver Performance Advisor, He continues. This will allow Yamaha to collect crucial data.”

For his part, Andrea Dovizioso expressed his enthusiasm for this announcement: "I am very pleased to officially announce this new relationship with Yamaha. I know this is an important step in a relationship built on trust and mutual respect. I feel completely comfortable in the role we have defined with Yamaha."

This signing comes as Yamaha seeks to lay the foundations of its development strategy in preparation for the technical revolution that awaits MotoGP in 2027. A major challenge that the main interested party is already eager to take on.

"We are well aware that this journey will be shaped by many small details that will need to be addressed, but we also have a clear vision of the outcome we want to achieve and we know the level of dedication required to achieve it." concludes Andrea Dovizioso.
