The transfer market in MotoGP looks set to be more eventful than ever ahead of the 2026 season. In recent weeks, several rumors have emerged regarding Jorge Martin's future. The Spaniard announced in person that he wanted to leave Aprilia, while the Noale factory denied the information, ensuring that the Spaniard's initial contract deadline – namely the end of 2026 – would be respected.

At Assen, however, his manager made some major news official. The Spanish driver, currently sidelined due to injuries, has been released from his contract. "Jorge Martin is free for 2026... Honda is an option," we learned during Free Practice 2 of the Assen Grand Prix, via comments from Albert Valera, the driver's manager, relayed by MotoGP.com.

This news opens the door to all sorts of speculation. Particularly from Honda, which has been cited as the most credible option since the end of the French Grand Prix. If this option were to materialize, it is rumored that he would take Luca Marini's place. However, he is not the only candidate for a seat at Honda. Johann Zarco, currently a driver in the satellite structure, is also in discussions with representatives of the official team.

Aprilia sticks to its position

Faced with these announcements, Aprilia Racing preferred to remain cautious. In a response to the press, the Italian team reiterated its position: "Our position has not changed since the press release issued on Thursday, May 22. Aprilia Racing representatives will not make any further comments on this matter."

Aprilia is referring here to the press release in which it firmly stated that the contract between Jorge Martín and "to be respected by both parties until its expiration (end of 2026)." The factory also denied that “negotiations have taken place between the parties to modify the duration of the contract.”
