  • Le MotoGP returns to the Austin circuit, one of Marc Marquez's favorite playgrounds, and the weekend begins with FP1 on a wet track. Track conditions deteriorated before the start of the session, and the first to set a time did so in slower times than the Moto2 riders, who took to the track a few minutes earlier.
  • The start of the session was marked by numerous crashes, and no one was spared. Even championship leader Marc Marquez lost control of his bike twice. Marco Bezzecchi also suffered a dramatic highside later on.
  • Two drivers stand out in these difficult conditions. Pecco Bagnaia and fabio quartararo thus propel themselves to the top of the rankings, 9 thousandths of a second ahead of the Italian.
  • Shortly before the final ten minutes of track time, conditions improved. In this wave of improvement, Franco Morbidelli set a new benchmark time of 2:15.026. A mark that Jack Miller would smash a few minutes later with a time of 2:13.531. Pedro Acosta was then second, while Marc Marquez moved back into the top three.
  • With two minutes left in the session, Johann Zarco improved the benchmark once again. The Frenchman then clocked a time of 2:12.838. He would be beaten by Franco Morbidelli, Marc Marquez, and Jack Miller before the checkered flag. The Italian thus started the weekend in the best possible way. Zarco's fourth place remains encouraging; it remains to be seen whether the Frenchman's potential is confirmed in more usual track conditions.
