Free Practice 2:
- For the first time this weekend, the weather conditions were kind to the drivers on the Austin circuit. While the track was dry, there were still some patches of moisture. Ai Ogura suffered the consequences early in the session, losing control in Sector 1.
- In terms of timing, Marc Marquez dominated the session from start to finish, but still couldn't get close to the 2:00 pole position that Maverick Viñales set last year. The Spaniard finished the session in first place, two seconds off that mark, with a best time of 2:02.113.
- Behind him, Alex Marquez is back in the lead and takes second place by a few tenths. Maverick Viñales completes the top three with KTM, a sign that he is still capable of great things on the Austin circuit, which he particularly likes.
- The French, fabio quartararo and Johann Zarco, finished in 7th and 14th positions.
MotoGP Austin – Qualifying Results
Qualification 1:
- After the start of Q1, it was quickly interrupted. Raul Fernandez lost control of his Aprilia at Turn 10, and his machine hit some safety devices located around the track. The session had to be suspended for repairs.
- The session resumed a few moments later, and two drivers stood out. Luca Marini was the first to shine, with a time of 2:02.001, faster than Marc Marquez's earlier in the day.
- Behind him, Fabio Quartararo battled with Marco Bezzecchi for second place in the standings. The Frenchman ultimately won his duel and advanced to Q2. A disappointment for the Italian, whose Aprilia had the potential to achieve a much better result.
- Johann Zarco finished this Q1 in 5th position, behind the Yamaha of Alex Rins, and will therefore start the weekend's races 15th.
Qualification 2:
- Back on track to contest Q2, Marc Marquez wasted no time in making his mark in Texas. Track conditions improved, and the Spaniard started with the fastest time of the weekend, a 2:01.522. His lead wasn't very significant, however, as Fabio Di Giannantonio, Alex Marquez, and Pecco Bagnaia also clocked in under 2:02.
- In the second attempt, the Spaniard improved by another tenth. In the final moments, Joan Mir prevented the riders from improving after crashing between sectors 3 and 4, causing yellow flags to be issued.
- However, each driver still has one more attempt to claim pole position. In this final attempt, Marc Marquez smashed his previous time and set a new benchmark of 2:01.088.
- Although discreet in the second half of the session, Alex Marquez came alive when it counted, and seemed to be able to help the Marquez brothers secure their third consecutive double in Qualifying. He set a time of 2:01.448, which gave him cause for hope, but was beaten in the end by Fabio Di Giannantobio.
- Pedro Acosta is finding good sensations on the circuit which hosted his first podium in MotoGP last year. The KTM rider finished fourth, ahead of Franco Morbidelli's VR46.
- Pecco Bagnaia was unable to do everything he could to compete with his teammate. He finished sixth, more than six tenths behind (2:01.611).
- Noteworthy was the excellent qualifying of Honda's MotoGP factory riders, Luca Marini and Joan Mir, who finished 7th and 8th respectively. Fabio Quartararo, meanwhile, completed Q2 with the 11th fastest time.
