Marc Marquez won the Argentine Grand Prix MotoGP 2025, signing his 90th career victory, and thus equaling the legendary Angel Nieto, his compatriot and multiple Grand Prix world champion.
With 90 wins to his name, Marc Marquez is tied for third place among the most successful drivers in the history of the world championship.. This performance now places him behind Giacomo Agostini (122 wins) and Valentino Rossi (115 wins).
After the race, Marquez expressed his joy and respect for the late Spanish champion: "I'm very happy to equal Angel Nieto, and this victory is for him and his entire family. He was a very important piece for the Spanish motorcycling world and in the world championship, where he won for a long time. It's a pleasure and an honor to equal him."
A 90th victory snatched at the cost of an intense battle with his younger brother, Alex, which put him to the test. “Today I gave it my all. From the start, my confidence wasn't very good with the rear. I had some problems. I saw that Alex was pushing and controlling the race, and towards the end, I felt better and better. I started to push less on the front, and with the used tire, I felt better.”
Marc Marquez struggles with his brother
Behind his younger brother, and biggest rival at the start of the season, Marc Marquez has been cautious. In any case, more so than he would have been with any other driver.
"It is difficult to attack one's brother, adds Marquez at the finish. I tried once and just released one brake because I didn't know if we were sure to stop the bike, but the second time I prepared myself a little better."
Since the start of the season, the Marquez brothers have scored a one-two finish in every race. They also led 100% of the laps remaining in both sprint races and two main races. This is something Marquez absolutely did not expect. "I'm super impressed by Alex's level during these two races." he concluded.
The victory marks Marc Marquez's second consecutive success in 2025, and extends his championship lead to 16 points.. The next round of the MotoGP championship will take place in Austin, Texas, from March 28 to 30, where Marquez will try to continue his winning streak.
