Sepang Test: Fabio Quartararo imposes his pace in Malaysia

After dominating the Shakedown of MotoGP in Sepang (Malaysia) last week, fabio quartararo put the experience of his two days of riding on the site to good use, to follow up with the best time of the first day of pre-season testing this morning.

With the track open from 03:00 to 11:00 (French time), the 2021 world champion completed a total of 54 laps, to set a time of 1:57.555 at the end of the session. An improvement of two tenths, compared to his best time of last week, in 1:57.794.

Behind him, the Marquez brothers seem to be acclimatising wonderfully to their new machine. Marc thus sets the second time of the session in 1:57.606, with the Desmosedici GP25, ahead of the younger brother, Alex, in 1:57.738, with the 2024 machine of the Gresini team.

Questioned in the middle of the day, Ducati's sporting director, Mauro Grassilli, assured that the multiple world champion had fully integrated into the Ducati family. An important fact when we know that he will certainly be called upon to fight with his garage neighbor, Pecco Bagnaia for the title.

Behind, Fermin Aldeguer (Gresini Racing) follows his teammate. The n°54 thus takes the fifth time at three tenths. He therefore finishes, best rookie of the day. Behind, Ai Ogura (Trackhouse Racing) ranks 16th, and Somkiat Chantra (LCR Honda) takes the 21st time.

The other Frenchman on the grid, Johann Zarco, finished this first day with the ninth time. The LCR rider finds himself second Honda, behind the sixth time of Joan Mir.

Fabio Di Giannantonio had missed the last two rounds of the 2024 season, to undergo shoulder surgery. For his first laps with the Desmosedici GP25, the Italian finished seventh.

Jorge Martin and Raul Fernandez suffered big falls at the start of the session. Jorge Martin's condition is still unknown, while his compatriot had to forfeit the rest of the events.

As a reminder, many transfers took place on the sidelines of the 2025 season. The objective for each driver was to familiarize himself with his new machine. The times set by each are therefore not representative of the hierarchy in place.

Not all of them have had the chance to try out the latest version of their bike this morning, so we will have to wait for the rest of the winter tests before we have more precise indications of the level of performance of each factory.
