The wait is coming to an end after the long winter break, and the 2025 season of MotoGP is set to debut at the Chang International Circuit in Thailand. Yamaha riders, fabio quartararo and Álex Rins, are therefore ready to take on the challenges of this important year for the brand, and are especially eager to measure the level of competitiveness of their M1 on the 2025 grid.

Fabio Quartararo heads into this first Grand Prix in top form, having shone in pre-season testing. The Frenchman has already had some brilliant moments on the Buriram circuit, notably in 2019 where he took second place in his rookie season.

"We have worked hard during pre-season testing and overall I think we can be pleased with what has been achieved, confides the 2021 world champion before the start of this season. But what is important now is to keep our feet on the ground. We will use the first Sprint and especially the Race to assess our level."

“It will be interesting to see where we stand, and it’s always exciting to start a new season, He continues. Everyone at Yamaha is super motivated, so let's see what we can do!”

For his part, Álex Rins is starting his second season with the Iwata factory, and is feeling more and more comfortable on the M1. His best result in Thailand also dates back to the 20219 season, when he took fifth place. However, he has not finished a race there since 2022.

Yamaha tempers expectations

“It’s finally time to start racing again, the Spaniard rejoices. I’m sure the fans are super excited, and so am I. Yamaha and the team have worked hard to prepare for the 2025 tests in Sepang and Buriram, and the work we’ve done there has helped us improve our consistency. It’s going to be a long and exciting championship, so I can’t wait to get started.”

In addition to the two official riders, the Thailand GP will mark Pramac's racing debut under the Yamaha banner.

There is reason to be happy about this weekend of competition. Massimo Meregalli, the director of the Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP team, however, tempers expectations.

“I am happy that the racing season is starting. After the tests we saw positive signs. But the first race is the real point of reference. That is where you really understand where you are. The winter tests have already shown us that we have improved compared to last year. But as we have said before, we do not want to have high expectations. Our strategy is to remain realistic and objective. And to take the season and each GP as they come.” concludes the Italian.

With Quartararo and Rins at the helm, and the support of a dedicated technical team, Yamaha hopes to score important points from this first Grand Prix in Thailand, to lay the foundations for a promising season. However, it is worth remembering the difficulties encountered by the brand during the last two days of pre-season on the Buriram circuit.

Earlier this month, the venue appeared less suitable for the M1 than the Sepang circuit, where winter testing had begun.
