The Valencia Grand Prix was cancelled in 2024 due to devastating floods in the region. MotoGP has not, however, turned its back on the city that was to host the final of this 2024 season. After moving the event to Barcelona, the discipline announced that it would put in place a whole series of actions to help the victims of this disaster.

A few weeks later, the championship closed its accounts. It can therefore reveal the total amount of the sum that it will donate to the associations helping the victims. In total, 1,6 million euros were collected. During the Barcelona Grand Prix, as well as through the auctions and donation campaigns organized during the following weeks.

A figure largely fuelled by Dorna Sports, the company holding the rights to MotoGP, which made a final donation that was, to say the least, generous. "Instead of simply donating the profits generated by ticket sales as part of the investment made in organising the event, Dorna has decided to increase its contribution in recognition of this collective effort and to donate one million euros to the funds raised for Valencia."

Thanks to the commitment of MotoGP fans, the auctions held on site and online, often offering interested parties items belonging to the riders, raised more than 300 euros.

An action for Valencia among others

The teams, through their association, IRTA, also made a significant donation of 100 euros to Valencia. The Barcelona Chamber of Commerce donated 000 euros. As a reminder, sales of tickets, t-shirts and other products also went towards the MotoGP collection fund.

The money raised will therefore be used to rebuild the towns located around the Ricardo Tormo circuit. Towns that "usually benefit from the positive economic impact of hosting the season finale." As suggested the official communication of Dorna.

This initiative was only that of MotoGP. Other players in the paddock have also launched their own. The Aspar team, which competes in Moto2, as well as in Moto3, has for example created its own collection fund.

Made public shortly before the weekend in Barcelona, the team based in the Valencia region has collected more than 150 euros. A few MotoGP riders have notably contributed to this kitty.
