It was in the air, it's now official. Suzuki is experiencing its final season in MotoGP. The rumor appeared on May 6 but the Japanese manufacturer had not communicated officially. It's done.
Through a press release issued this Thursday, May 12, Suzuki confirmed its desire to leave the premier category at the end of the current campaign. This is the 2e time that the Japanese factory withdraws from MotoGP after its withdrawal at the end of 2011 during the transition to 1000cc. She then made her return in 2015 with Aleix Espargaro and Maverick Viñales as headliners.
Since then, Suzuki has continued to grow until winning its first world titles with the team and pilot crowns thanks to Joan Mir in 2020, the famous season of the pandemic.
« Suzuki Motor Corporation is in discussions with Dorna (discipline promoter) regarding the possibility of ending his participation in MotoGP at the end of 2022, can we read in the press release. Unfortunately, the current economic situation and the need to focus its efforts on the major changes that the automotive world has been facing in recent years, force Suzuki to transfer costs and human resources to the development of new technologies.
We would like to express our deep gratitude to our Suzuki Ecstar team, to all those who have supported Suzuki's activities in motorcycle racing over many years and to all Suzuki fans who have given us their support »
