Compartment syndrome, a scourge for pilots MotoGP affected two drivers on the grid before the French GP. Somkiat Chantra (LCR Honda) and Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing), have both successfully undergone surgery, around ten days before the race which will take place on the Bugatti circuit in Le Mans.
The Thai was operated on on April 30 at the Universitari Dexeus hospital in Barcelona by Dr Xavier Mir. Chantra, who suffered persistent forearm pain, was forced to retire from the Spanish Grand Prix for this reason. However, his team recently announced that Johann Zarco's teammate had been released from hospital.
He is now continuing his convalescence in Barcelona and is aiming for a return as soon as possible. Le Mans, subject to the medical green light expected next Thursday. Pedro Acosta, for his part, also underwent surgery for compartment syndrome in his right forearm on April 29, the day after the Jerez test..
The two-time world champion, who finished seventh in the Spanish Grand Prix and fifth in official practice, has been placed under observation. KTM sought to provide reassurance when providing the news. "Pedro Acosta underwent successful surgery this evening on his right forearm to treat chronic compartment syndrome. He will remain under observation for 24 hours and is expected to return for the French GP, pending a medical check-up next week." publishes the Austrian brand on X.
Compartment syndrome, or "arm pump," is a common condition among MotoGP riders, caused by the accumulation of pressure in the forearm muscles during intense efforts.. Although recovery is generally rapid, it nevertheless requires strict medical monitoring.
