While the Italian manufacturer has already been responsible for supplying tyres for Moto2 since last year and Moto3 since this year, Pirelli will also equip the machines of MotoGP. The latter will enter a new era in 2027, with a profoundly modified regulation, and in particular the return to 800cc engines. This will be the end of the contract for Michelin, which has exclusively equipped MotoGP since 2016.
Pirelli's contract with MotoGP will therefore take effect from 2027, and until 2031. This will therefore be an additional piece of data to discover for the teams, who will already have to put new prototypes on the track. This new contract will also allow the entire paddock to be equipped with Pirelli, from Moto3 to MotoGP. Young riders will thus be able to gain experience on the use of these tires from their first races in each category. Pirelli also equips the World Superbike Championship, where machines derived from the series compete.
Michelin will remain the sole manufacturer of MotoGP and the MotoE championship until the end of 2026, as its initial contract provided for. For its part, the Italian manufacturer will be involved in 2027 in the two biggest motorsport championships on the planet, in Formula 1 and in MotoGP. Pirelli has a contract until that year in F1, with an option year in 2028.
