Victim of a violent highside between turns 12 and 13 during the third free practice session of the Valencia GP, Pol Espargaro was taken to hospital to undergo examinations.
These revealed no fracture, but the pilot suffered significant bruising to the right part of the thorax and abdomen. “Unfortunately today, I crashed heavily at turn 13 during FP3,” he said. The impact was very violent, but fortunately I didn't have any serious injuries and nothing seemed broken according to the tests we had at the hospital. At the moment, I have a lot of pain around my ribs when I breathe, that's what hurts me the most. »

Espargaro logically skipped the final free practice session and the qualifying which followed. However, he did not rule out getting back behind the wheel of his RC213V on Sunday to compete in the last race of the season. “I'm very disappointed because we had a fast pace and I was confident, added the only official Honda representative. I apologize to my team. Tonight we're going to rest, take some painkillers and see what happens in the morning. » After assessing his condition this morning ahead of the warm-up, Pol Espargaro finally decided to withdraw from the final race of the 2021 season. He prefers to concentrate on the official tests in Jerez which will be held next Thursday and Friday.
After assessing his condition this morning, @polespargaro will not participate in the #ValenciaGP as he and the Repsol Honda Team focus on the Jerez Test.
