For a rider who was crashing a lot to discover the limits of his Honda until 2020, Marc Márquez seems to have changed his tune in 2025. Exceptionally clean in Thailand and Argentina, the championship leader has racked up four straight wins, two Sprints and two Grands Prix. In his hometown of Austin, where he has won seven times, the #93 is expected to turn the corner. During a wet first session, Márquez ended up on the ground for the first time in his new colors, after a highside at turn two. The Cervera native did not shirk his responsibility when he spoke at the end of the day from the official MotoGP website.

"It's my fault, because it wasn't the time to make these kinds of mistakes in Free Practice 1. With the ambition, motivation and confidence I have, I didn't pay attention to the amount of water there could be on the track. I aquaplaned and ended up on the ground. It wasn't the right time, but hey, I jumped on the other bike, continued my day and the feeling was good."

Little time to understand everything

Those who might have seen this crash as a setback for Francesco Bagnaia's teammate must have been disappointed during the afternoon practice. Marc Márquez set the fastest time, seven tenths ahead of his closest rival. In tricky conditions, with the track drying out, the six-time MotoGP world champion put in a brilliant performance.

“On slick tires, I felt fast and comfortable. Everything will be tighter on Saturday, because the conditions were very difficult on Friday. I feel at home on a track that has small wet areas, which change lap after lap. I was getting faster and faster, so I didn't attack on the last lap because I couldn't make another mistake. I had set a good enough time to go straight into Q2, and that was the goal. This Saturday, the goal will be the front row.”

With only thirty minutes of testing before qualifying and then the Sprint race, Márquez admits it will be difficult to store enough data to be good everywhere: "The weekend really starts on Saturday, it will be difficult to understand the tires, the setup and that kind of thing in thirty minutes before qualifying. We will see if we can understand what we will need for a flying lap, and for the Sprint race."
