When will the 2025 MotoGP season start?

The final laps of the 2024 season of MotoGP were carried out in Barcelona last Tuesday, on the occasion of the Official Test held on the Circuit de Catalunya. A test session which aimed to prepare for the 2025 season. Many drivers had also received authorization to race with the teams that will enter them next year.

Now it's time for the drivers and teams to rest. The summer break won't be very long, though. The action on the track will resume sooner than you might think.

The sound of engines will resound for the first time this year at dawn on January 31. A day that will mark the start of pre-season testing in Sepang. Thus, three days of testing (January 31 – February 02) will be organized as part of the traditional Shakedown. A driving session in which only the test drivers of each manufacturer are authorized to take to the track.

There is, however, an exception for Rank D manufacturers (those who have scored less than X% of the points over the last calculated period), namely Honda and Yamaha. These brands will be able to run their regular riders.

After Sepang, heading for Buriram

These three days of testing will be followed directly by the Sepang pre-season tests, scheduled for February 5-7. This time, each team on the grid will be able to line up its regular drivers, which will mark the start of the season for each of the twenty-two entrants.

It will then be the turn of the Buriram circuit to host the premier category of speed racing. The site which will host the first meeting of the season, in place of the Losail circuit (Qatar), will open its doors to MotoGP on February 12 and 13.

We will then have to wait a little less time than usual to attend the first Grand Prix of the season. While the opening round took place on the weekend of March 10 this year, the Thailand Grand Prix will be held from February 28 to March 2.

What about the other categories?

Alongside the MotoGP pre-season tests, Moto2 and Moto3 will also return to the circuits. These categories will, however, take place at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit in Valencia.

The smallest class will have access to the track on February 7 and 8. The intermediate class test will take place on February 9 and 10. Three additional days of preparation will be dedicated to them in Jerez, from February 18 to 20.

For the rest, Moto2 and Moto3 will follow MotoGP as usual on its long tour, which – if all goes well – should include twenty-two events.

"The summer break", ah ah ah, lol, at the end of the season and in December, wouldn't it rather be "the winter break" for mechanical competitions? Get your journalists back on track, Mr Romain Bernard!!!!!!!
