The Frenchman may have signed his second worst result of the season in Aragon, but he is still more than two races ahead in the general standings, enough to keep him smiling five stages from the final.

Quartararo: “It’s not a disaster”

Statistically, when fabio quartararo starts from the first row on the grid, he almost half the time converts into a place on the podium. But MotorLand is an exception since with three first rows in four races on the Iberian track, it has never finished among the first three under the checkered flag.

Today, the Frenchman arrived in eighth place, but he hoped to do better. “After the warm-up, I thought I could fight for something,” he confided. I managed to manage well. But during the race, my rear tire did not function normally. The only positive thing was that I was able to fight for my position and didn't give up until the end. »

But let us be reassured, even if a hint of disappointment reigned through his words, the Frenchman remains calm. “It’s not a disaster,” he said. Last year everything was normal except for my mistake with the front tire. Today I had a strange feeling from the first to the last lap and we need to understand why. »

And while many of his opponents have not hesitated to point the finger at Michelin in recent times, Quartararo first wants to analyze: "I don't want to say that it's the tire, but simply that I didn't have the same feeling as during the weekend. Something went wrong. »

As for the championship, the Yamaha rider also wants to be reassuring. “It’s not a disaster,” he repeated. Since Germany, we have increased our overall lead. These are things that can happen and we can also lose points. We need to know what happened. Even fighting for eighth or ninth place, I gave everything and that's the positive side. »

Bagnaia as top threat for last five races

Between Joan Mir or Pecco Bagnaia, who does Quartararo consider the most dangerous? “Bagnaia because he is strong in Misano,” he replied. He also finished second in Portugal. For Austin, we don't know exactly, but what is certain is that this victory will give him a boost. He deserves it, because he was very strong. We need to stay focused without worrying about others. »

Next meeting in a few days at the Misano circuit where the Yamaha won in both races last year…
