Quartararo: “The Yamaha is the one you saw in Qatar”

Mandalika hosts the first Indonesian GP this weekend after 25 years of absence from the calendar. The last meeting in Indonesia dates back to 1997 on the Sentul route. The pilots MotoGP have, however, already driven on the circuit located on the island of Lombok during the official test organized in February.

fabio quartararo there also signed the second time only a few thousandths behind Pol Espargaro's Honda. Victim of the increase in pressure in his front tire in Qatar, the world champion does not set a goal for the event in Mandalika. “It was difficult, because I expected a lot more in Qatar,” he said of the opening meeting. It's true that we hadn't done three days of testing beforehand and in the end, we lacked grip. For the race we tried something and the front tire pressure was not right from the start. It was a pretty tough ride, but you always learn from the tough times. We were fast in the test here, but it's completely different from the race. We'll see what we can accomplish. »

Will this weekend be different for the Yamahas compared to Qatar? The Nice resident is not sure. “I think what suits us more is to have shorter straight lines,” he said. During the tests, I chased the clock in the last minutes of the third day and Pol did it in the morning and he was already in the box. We will have Friday and Saturday to figure it out. Let's see how the weather will be. What is certain is that I will do my best and I will fight where I feel we can. »

As for the prospect of having some new features from Yamaha which would allow him to return to the level of his adversaries, Quartararo does not expect anything... “The Yamaha is the one you saw in Qatar,” he said. confessed. I don't think so and I haven't heard anything new, so it's the real Yamaha. »

See you on Friday from 3:50 a.m. (Paris time) for the first MotoGP free practice session in Mandalika.
