Quartararo dominates Friday despite heavy crash at Silverstone

A week after the Austrian GP, the drivers of MotoGP met this Friday for the first day of the British GP. On the Silverstone circuit, if Marc Marquez was the fastest of the morning before making a mistake at more than 260 km/h, fabio quartararo responded in the afternoon to win a lap in 1'59.317.

But before climbing to the top of the hierarchy, the Frenchman gave himself a big scare by falling heavily at turn 8. And even though he was able to limp back to his box, the championship leader gritted his teeth to chase the clock. With temperatures being low in the morning at Silverstone, Quartararo has most likely secured a place in Q2.

In the combined rankings of the two sessions, he is more than half a second ahead of Jack Miller. Jorge Martin, for his part, set the third time ahead of the Honda duo, Pol Espargaro/Marc Marquez.

Francesco Bagnaia ended the day with the sixth fastest time ahead of Aleix Espargaro, hampered by his brother Pol during FP2. Winner of the last Austrian GP, Brad Binder placed the first KTM in eighth position ahead of Alex Rins and a certain Valentino Rossi.

A difficult Friday for Joan Mir and Johann Zarco, respectively 13e and 14e cumulatively from the two sessions.
