The 2021 world champion started from 23rd position on the grid, after complicated qualifying for the Yamaha. If the Niçois had managed to finish third in the Sprint (before receiving a penalty for too low front tire pressure), such a comeback was not on the agenda on Sunday.

On his Yamaha n°20, fabio quartararo was in 19th place in the first laps of the race, before progressing to 13th place. Unfortunately, pain in his arm, following several very hard braking sessions, relegated him to fifteenth place at the drop of the checkerboard. Quartararo, however, was reassuring after the finish, ruling out a potential operation for compartment syndrome.

“I had difficulty with the rear tire from the first laps, it got worse after that. Physically, the bike was very difficult to ride. I had to slow down from halfway through the race and in the last laps I couldn't brake at all. So I've had some difficulty with my forearm, but it's not something that requires surgery. I just tried to brake too hard in the first few laps, and that put me in difficulty at the end.", he declared on Canal+.

Tests not crucial, but nonetheless important

The Yamaha rider also spoke about the tests, which take place this Monday at the Jerez circuit. Important tests for the Japanese brand, mired in difficulties since the Frenchman's world title, in 2021.

“We are lacking a lot of grip at the rear and in the corners, so I hope [Monday's] test will allow us to remedy that. I don't expect a big, big step, but I hope we find an improvement to feel better on the bike and be faster. »
