Quartararo: “There were other problems”

He had trained several times during the weekend to learn how to best negotiate the Long Lap of the Silverstone circuit and yet that was not what really posed a problem for fabio quartararo...

The Yamaha rider actually suffered more from his rear tire during the race and he had to settle for eighth place at the checkered flag. “We talked a lot about the penalty, but in the end there were other problems,” admitted the Nice native. The main problem was the rear tire, especially when I found myself behind other riders. I couldn't ride, the tire was overheating, I was losing performance... It was a nightmare. »

Quartararo opted for the medium at the back when others, like his three opponents on the podium, chose the hard. And in the face of higher temperatures, it made the difference. “I chose the medium because we didn’t test the hard and it was a mistake,” he said. In conditions like those of the race, putting on the hard tire would have been the right choice. It's a shame. »

Apart from the penalty and his rear tire, the world champion also had to deal with the weak points of his YZR-M1. “The top speed, the acceleration and the grip at the rear, but I prefer not to talk too much about it,” he said. It is important for us to stay focused, because there are some negative points that we will not be able to improve this season. »

heading for the Red Bull Ring

In less than two weeks, the paddock of MotoGP will set down on the Red Bull Ring circuit for the Austrian GP. No Yamaha rider has won there; the Japanese firm's best result being a third place to the credit of Quartararo (2019 and 2021/1) and Jorge Lorenzo (2016). “The next races will take place on circuits with a lot of acceleration and long straights,” lamented Quartararo. Then there will be Motegi and Buriram where we have not ridden since 2019, but the situation will be the same. »

Quartararo can, however, console himself since he leaves Great Britain with a 22-point lead compared to 21 when he arrived. The good operation goes to Francesco Bagnaia who dethrones Johann Zarco from third place and comes back to 49 points behind Quartararo…
