Quartararo: “I’m happy with this day”

The Frenchman thought he could improve his time in the afternoon, but unfortunately rain arrived this afternoon on the Sepang circuit, causing a significant delay. Obviously, no driver was able to progress.

At the end of the day, the world champion was ninth in the standings, 1.5s behind the best time set by Brad Binder. “My feeling is good in the dry,” says Quarterly. Especially because we decided to attack straight away with a pace of 2'00.5. The conditions this morning were catastrophic, the grip was very weak compared to the test (winter, editor's note). After two days the asphalt was much better. Overall, I'm happy with this day. This morning I used the soft tire on the front because of the amount of medium we have, it worked pretty well. »

With the medium, the Niçois ensures that he still has some under his belt. “With the soft, it’s the first that I can brake almost as well as with the medium (…). It's not really about times, but rather about consistency. It will be easier for me. »

Crucial qualifications…

To put all the chances on his side and push back the title deadline in Valencia, Quartararo will have to work hard in qualifying. “I don’t think like that,” he said. I know these are the most important qualifiers of the year, but at the end of the day, from Qatar until today, I have always given what I had to qualify well. I think I need to keep the same mindset. Of course, I have this mentality of telling myself that I have nothing to lose, but I was already like that in Australia. It won't change anything, but I'll try to push it to the limit. »
