This is the seventh time in a row that fabio quartararo will not start from the first line. The Frenchman has not appeared there since the Dutch GP at the end of June.
At Phillip Island, Quartararo however limited the damage as he will start fifth behind Francesco Bagnaia and Aleix Espargaro. “I'm rather disappointed, because I give so much on a lap, and it's never enough,” nevertheless laments the Nice native. I have the experience of knowing what it's like to do a fast lap, here I really push the limits, but every time you do a good lap, it's never enough. It's frustrating, but that's okay, because we did much worse than fifth, but it's annoying to always be two or three tenths behind the first. »

Unlike some of his counterparts, Quartararo did not want to follow a wheel to help him set his time. “The most important thing was to get the tires up to temperature,” he said. There is always someone waiting, you want to let them pass and they stay behind… So I preferred to pull and ride. »
It now remains to be seen which set of tires the Frenchman will choose on Sunday and this is for the moment the big unknown. “I have no idea,” he confides. We will have to see the data with Michelin and the team's tire analyst. It can be soft, medium or hard at the back, and medium or hard at the front. There are lots of possibilities. »
