Quartararo: “We have the pace for the podium”

First Yamaha representative in the hierarchy in sixth place, fabio quartararo admits that he is already on pace to fight at the forefront. “I feel good, I think we have a very good pace,” confides the Frenchman. During the afternoon, I felt very good. I did a 31.7 with worn tires trying something. There is still some doubt about the front tire, whether it is medium or soft. I think there are quite a few drivers who hesitate between these two tires. But I think we have the pace for the podium. »

In pole position for the last two editions of the French GP, Quartararo will have to overcome the Ducati this time if he wishes to make it to three, but the task promises to be complicated. “They are scary everywhere,” smiles the world champion about the machines at the Bologna factory. On a stop’n’go circuit like this, with the acceleration and the aerodynamic load they have, I think it’s an advantage. Even if we have a lot of positive points with our different aerodynamics compared to last year. There is a bit of negative too, but the Ducatis are strong everywhere. »

If in the past there were circuits that suited the Yamaha or the Ducati more, the Frenchman confides that this is no longer the case: “I remember at the time, it was said that the Ducatis did not run very much. , but when we see the Ducati in Jerez… it's a bit like good circuits for Yamaha, I think they don't really exist anymore and it's the same for the Ducatis. »

In 2020 and 2021, it was Ducati that won at Le Mans in the wet. The last Yamaha victory is to the credit of Maverick Viñales in 2017.
