Quartararo: “Everyone can take big points”

This weekend the Thai GP is being held on the Buriram circuit, a track on which the protagonists of the MotoGP had not visited since 2019. After two cancellations, the Thai event returns for a third edition.

Ahead of this 17e meeting of the season, fabio quartararo is 18 points ahead of Francesco Bagnaia and 25 over Aleix Espargaro. Mathematically, if the Frenchman scores eight points more than “Pecco” in Buriram, he will be able to play a first match point in the fight for the title at the Australian GP. “Everyone can take big points,” underlines the Nice native. I don't think this weekend will be a turning point. In any case, I hope I can score the most points. Over the last four races, this will be the important thing to do. »

In 2019, during his rookie year in MotoGP, Quartararo led every lap of the race, except the last, beaten by Marc Marquez in the last corner. “We know that we were fast and that we turn quickly on this circuit,” confides the world champion. The conditions are different, the bikes have evolved, but I know we have good potential here, apart from in sector 1 and half of the second where we are in a little difficulty. »

No word more than the other...

Despite a very tight gap in the overall standings, Quartararo, Bagnaia and Aleix Espargaro maintain excellent relationships, both on and off the track. “On the track, if I have to face someone, I will,” Quartararo emphasizes. Whether it's Pecco, Aleix or Bastianini... But I find that there is no reason to be serious in a press conference and not get along. They are two separate things."

“I think that limiting the ailerons would be much better” – Fabio Quartararo

During his press briefing on Thursday, Quartararo also returned to the race at Motegi during which there were few overtakes. For some of the players in the paddock, including Quartararo, this lack of overtaking can be explained by the use of wings. “Motegi was one of the lousiest races in a while,” he says. Not even an overrun…. The aerodynamics when you're behind don't work as well, so the one in front of you escapes. It's certain that it's MotoGP, which needs to evolve on many things, but if we want to talk about a show, I think that limiting the wings would be much better. If they want to improve the show by doing sprint races, I think we also have to ask ourselves questions about these things”
