Which riders are riding in the MotoGP Shakedown?

Sepang Shakedown set to begin - Red Bull Content Pool

From January 31 to February 2, the teams of MotoGP will return to the track as part of the traditional Shakedown, organized on the Sepang circuit (Malaysia). As every year, the factories will have to respect very strict rules concerning the drivers authorized to ride during these three days. The opportunity to take a look at the representatives of each brand.

Please note that these three days of testing will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 18:00 p.m. local time, or 03:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in mainland France.

Rookies on track

Last year only Pedro Acosta benefited from the rookie exemption for the Sepang Shakedow. This year, there will be three on the track.

First up, Somkiat Chantra will do it for Honda, having joined Johann Zarco at the LCR team. Then, Moto2 title-winner and now Trackhouse rider Ai Ogura will take the time to get to know the RS-GP over the three days.

The third and final rookie of this 2025 MotoGP season, Fermin Aldeguer, will be allowed to take to the track with the Desmosedici GP24 of the Gresini team.

Test teams at work

Test drivers from each brand will take to the track at Sepang. Most of the test teams have been reinforced during the 2024 season, and it will be time for them to get into action. Find out the full line-up for each factory on the grid via the following article.

Yamaha and Honda bonuses

Given their status as Tier D manufacturers, Yamaha and Honda will have the opportunity to run their regular riders during the three days of action. Last year, the Iwata factory only entered fabio quartararo and Alex Rins. In 2025, it will have two additional testers, with Pramac Racing drivers Jack Miller and Miguel Oliveira.

The same will apply to Luca Marini, Joan Mir and Johann Zarco, the three other riders in the Honda quartet, who will join the rookie, Somkiat Chantra, on the track.

After the six days of testing in Kuala Lumpur (three days of Shakedown and three days of pre-season testing), the paddock will move to Buriram (Thailand), in order to compete in two additional days of testing, on February 12 and 13. Tests that will precede the inaugural round of the 2024 season which will take place on the same circuit on the weekend of March 02.
