A major new feature in the regulations MotoGP, effective since April 29. This follows a vote by the Grand Prix Commission, which met on the sidelines of the Jerez Grand Prix in Spain. From now on, injured regular drivers will be allowed to take a test before making their return to Grand Prix racing, although this is not mandatory.

The new rule stipulates, via article 1.15.1.1 paragraph D, that those concerned are those who have missed three or more consecutive events. That is, a Grand Prix or an official test. Or those who have not been able to participate in an event in the last 45 days during the season (from the first official pre-season test to the last race).

The FIM reminds that participation in an event is validated if the driver has crossed the pit lane exit line at least once.

Evolution of the MotoGP regulations: supervised tests

These tests, which are now in place, are of course regulated. According to the regulations, they must be conducted on a circuit where the manufacturer is authorized to conduct tests in accordance with its dealership regulations. Or on any circuit where no other MotoGP race is scheduled during the season after this test day.

Otherwise, in any case, such a test will never be able to be conducted within eight weeks of a MotoGP race at this circuit. But that's not all. The number of tires used will also count towards the team's test allocation. Thus, a maximum of three sets can be used.

Finally, Jorge Martin (Aprilia), who suffered multiple fractures following a heavy fall at the Qatar GP and is out for several weeks, will be able to benefit from this regulation update after his long convalescence.

I find it quite normal for MotoGP riders who have been injured for at least 45 days or who have missed 3 MotoGP races in a row to take advantage of doing 1 test to find out if they are fit or not to participate in 1 MotoGP race weekend!! Example, Jorge Martin who was injured before the start of the season and who was injured again during the Qatar GP, well I find it really very interesting that he can, just before his planned return to MotoGP, test himself on 1 circuit independent of the different circuits of the 2025 MotoGP season to find out if he is fit or not for 1 full MotoGP weekend!! And with this regulation, it will prevent some MotoGP riders, thinking they are ready for 1 race weekend and then abandoning during that same race weekend because he was not ready for 1 return to the MotoGP circuits of the 2025 season!! 😉
