Rins returns to victory, Quartararo stumbles

Rain and a soggy track gave way to bright skies for the race MotoGP of the Australian GP. From pole position, Jorge Martin made the best start ahead of Marc Marquez. Pointed in fifth position, Bagnaia quickly moved up to third.

The Italian was then just over eight tenths behind the two leaders at the first point. fabio quartararo was in sixth place. On the fourth lap, Jack Miller, who started from the third row, moved up in the wake of his teammate.

In this same loop, Quartararo made a first mistake by shooting straight at turn 4. He managed to stay on his wheels, but the Frenchman tumbled to 22e place. He then started to climb back up.

Although threatened, Bagnaia stood up to Miller, who then found himself overtaken by Alex Rins out of nowhere. The Spaniard is not decided to stop there. In the next loop, he got rid of Bagnaia before setting off in pursuit of Martin and Marquez, still in control.

Just behind, Miller was hit by Alex Marquez entering turn 4, just named after the Australian. At 11e In turn, it was Quartararo's turn to fall while Bagnaia, his main opponent for the title, fought for victory.

Informed of the Frenchman's abandonment, Bagnaia is not decided to play the grocer. He then worked hard to pass Marquez and Marin in one go and chase after Rins.

Bagnaia, Rins and Marquez jostled before being joined by Marco Bezzecchi. The rookie settled into second position behind Bagnaia and did not dare take the advantage of his VR46 counterpart. Two laps from the checkered flag, Bezzecchi had to give in and let victory be decided between these three opponents.

If Bagnaia seemed well on his way to snatching his seventh success of the year, Rins managed to gain the upper hand over the Italian, just like Marquez. Rins then takes victory, his first since the 2020 Aragon GP. He thus becomes the seventh different winner of the season and brings the number of different manufacturers on the top step of the podium to five this year, an unprecedented number in the premier category.

Marquez, for his part, records his 100e Top 3 in MotoGP, while Bagnaia inherits the overall command with 14 points ahead of Quartararo. Bagnaia will therefore play a first match point next week in Malaysia.
