Rins is keen to prove Suzuki wrong for wanting to leave

After 10 days of waiting, Suzuki finally released a press release this morning officially announcing its intention to leave the MotoGP at the end of the 2022 season. The Japanese factory having extended its contract with Dorna (championship promoter) until 2026, negotiations are currently underway.

After the Jerez test, the Suzuki Ecstar team staff and its drivers became aware of this announcement, as did the pressure. Obviously, this news surprised the entire paddock, starting with the two representatives of the Hamamatsu firm. “After the Jerez test, Livio (Suppo, Team Manager, editor’s note) and Sahara-San (MotoGP project manager, editor’s note) called me to tell me this news, and it was very hard,” admits Alex Rins. I cried, I gave everything for this team since 2017 to allow them to develop a competitive bike. The team has also given everything since 2015 and the return of Suzuki to MotoGP. »

And added: “(…) We are fighting for the drivers’ title and we are first in the team rankings, so it’s hard to understand. »

The Iberian driver, who announced that he wanted to extend with Suzuki in Portugal, nevertheless says he is confident about his future, even if for the moment, he has no confirmation. “I think I can find something, but it's even harder for them. I'm really sorry, because it's like family to me. »

“At the moment I have nothing, but I have a manager for that. It will now be busier than in past weeks (laughs). But to be honest, it gives me an extra boost because I think I have the best package I've ever had at Suzuki, so let's show them they made the wrong decision. »
