Santi Hernandez has been playing in the Grand Prix paddock since the end of the 1990s. He has worked alongside Marc Marquez since the Catalan's debut in Moto2 in 2011 as chief mechanic. Since then, the duo has won no less than seven world championship titles, including six in the premier category.
The last two years have been the opposite of Marquez's 2019 season. Injured his arm during the 2020 Spanish GP, he had to give up the rest of the calendar. It was only last year during the Portuguese GP that he was able to return to the track. He returned to victory at the German GP (his playground) and he won again in Austin and Emilia-Romagna. But, suffering a fall in training, he had to miss the last two meetings of the season due to diplopia (double vision).
