Suzuki has left the world championship MotoGP end of 2022, and has not been replaced since. The two places that the manufacturer had on the starting grid through its factory team, in fact, still remain to be allocated, while no manufacturer has yet taken a step towards the discipline.
This departure, while the Japanese firm was evolving at the forefront, was at the very least surprising. Moreover, the competition seems to be missed by some of the brand's managers, who liked to take advantage of this success. Recently interviewed in Milan, on the occasion of the two-wheeler show that was held there, the CEO of Suzuki did not hide his interest in a return to competition. However, there is no need to be alarmed, because if the desire is there, the priorities of the manufacturer are elsewhere.
“Winning in MotoGP was very important for us, Toshihiro Suzuki confided in remarks relayed by Moto sprint. However, it doesn't matter if we don't have a complete and articulated range of models that we can offer to all biker enthusiasts. And I don't think we're in that situation right now.
It is therefore important for us to be able to quickly offer a complete range of products. A range that can satisfy all of today's bikers, He continues. Then, if all goes well, we will also return to racing, and we will return to win."
A return to MotoGP is therefore not an option in the short term, especially as deadlines are tightening before the arrival of the new regulations. In 2027, the discipline will take a major turn in terms of its technical regulations. A new era, which will see the birth of bikes completely different from those currently on the track. Such a change requires colossal preparatory work for the teams. The latter are already starting to get down to it.
If the brand does not plan to set up this project immediately, it therefore appears complicated that it will get back into the hunt for the world title in the years to come. As a reminder, Suzuki's last crown dates back to the 2020 season, when Joan Mir was crowned champion. Its last victory dates back to the 2022 Valencia Grand Prix. Alex Rins then won a victory for Suzuki's last in MotoGP.
