A “more normal” GP according to Quartararo in Austria

Yamaha only has three podiums in the Red Bull Ring, three third places to the credit of fabio quartararo (2019 and 2021) and Jorge Lorenzo (2016). Even if it is not a circuit that suits the YZR-M1 the most, Quartararo is determined to take his revenge after a British GP conditioned by this Long Lap.

For the Frenchman, it will be a matter of doing his best to come out on top. “After Silverstone, I was a little disappointed, but I used this energy productively,” said the world champion. I've been training hard, and I feel focused and prepared for the weekend. Without any penalty in sight, this GP will be more “normal”. Our only goal is to do the best we can here. We know that Spielberg is not the circuit where we perform the best, but I finished third here in 2019 and 2021. If we keep the right attitude and work hard, we can achieve good results. »

“We know that this circuit, in theory, does not work to our advantage”

Little new thing this weekend, however: the introduction of a chicane between the first turn and the first hairpin on the right (formerly turn no. 3). “We didn't have the results we hoped for at Silverstone, and we learned from the mistakes we made,” said Maio Meregalli, team manager of the official Yamaha team. The team is now fully focused on the task ahead, as we know Spielberg is a difficult circuit for us. Our team members still really like Spielberg because the venue, location and atmosphere are always great, but we know that this circuit, in theory, does not work to our advantage. So we have to be smart this weekend and look to get the best possible result. »

Rain is forecast near Spielberg this weekend and in these conditions, we know that the situation can quickly turn to the advantage of the Yamaha rider or to his disadvantage. Last year, there were showers a few laps before the end of the race. And if some, like Quartararo, chose to go to the box to come out with their second bike, others, like Brad Binder, preferred to stay on slicks. The South African also achieved the feat of winning despite a wet track…

What if we saw the first victory of a Japanese machine at the Red Bull Ring in MotoGP? Answer Sunday from 14 p.m.!
