Hope quickly vanished for Johann Zarco in Motegi. Second on the starting grid just behind Marc Marquez, the Cannes resident took advantage of the rainy conditions to excel on Saturday, during qualifying. Unfortunately, the Japanese Grand Prix took place on a dry track. The Pramac driver quickly lost sight of first place.

Author of a very average start, Johann Zarco tumbled down the rankings from the first lap, finding himself 7th after the first loop. Guilty of an error on the 5th lap, the Frenchman fell to 13th place. “It was a complicated race, admitted the double Moto2 champion. I'm doing my best to try to pass Viñales because I felt good at that point in the first 5 laps. But it pushed me to make a mistake and even two mistakes that followed. I lost a lot of places: from 7th, I went to 13th. »

“It’s up to us to work to get the feeling back” recognizes Zarco

In difficulty throughout the race, with his medium tire at the rear, Johann Zarco was never able to get back to the leading drivers. Meanwhile, his teammate at Pramac, Jorge Martin, managed to secure a podium in Motegi. “This group for the first 10 was still going quite fast and that didn't allow me to come back to make up for this error. It was a difficult race and at the end we are trying to fight for 10th place with Bezzecchi. There were some nice overtakes but he managed to look at the right position. »

Because of this disappointing race, the French driver lost a place in the championship to Brad Binder. With only 27 points scored in the last 6 Grands Prix, Johann Zarco has completely lost the general classification. “Great victory for Jack [Miller] who managed well all weekend and who was very strong in this race. It's up to us to work to have this same feeling. »
