An operation planned for next Wednesday for Zarco

It was imminent, but it is now planned. Johann Zarco will have surgery for compartment syndrome on his right arm between the San Marino and Americas GPs by the same surgeon who treated his compatriot fabio quartararo after Jerez this year.

“I will undergo the procedure next Wednesday in Aix,” declared the Frenchman. It's close to home and I have a good feeling with Dr Dufour who operated on Fabio and who has a lot of experience on this subject. I was able to take the time Monday and Tuesday to confirm this diagnosis of compartment syndrome in my right arm. Hence this decision, not to speed things up, but to do it as soon as we return from Misano. »

During the Aragon GP, the Cannes native had the hypothesis of having an operation after Austin. “I had thought of that to take advantage of the 15 days of break,” he recalled. But a week is enough to heal. If you wait too long, healing happens too quickly and the opening has already closed. That's why they advised me to take a week and then attack. »

With five races remaining in the season, Zarco is 77 points behind Quartararo in the championship. Although he is not excluded from the fight for the title mathematically speaking, the task promises to be difficult for the Ducati rider. “It’s not the objective on which I should put all my attention,” he admitted. I have lost a lot of points against Fabio since the championship resumed in August. For me, saving a final podium would already be huge. At the beginning, I was almost aiming for a Top 10, so if I finish in the top three, we will still be beyond what we had hoped for. »

Out of his five participations in Misano in the premier category, Zarco has a 10th place as his best result in 2018 when he was still riding a Honda.
