Zarco, “lacking speed” on Friday in Catalonia

Johann Zarco admits he lacked speed on the opening day of the Catalan GP, even though his best time was canceled for failing to respect the yellow flags. “A first day where there is a lack of speed,” he said. I see that it's not easy for each driver, everyone has a little difficulty. It's tricky with this rear tire which overheats and prevents you from having a good feeling on the bike. Even with this kind of problem, I generally manage to be good on this circuit, but here we simply lack speed. We haven't yet managed everything well in terms of settings, whether motorcycle or electronic. So, things aren't going very well. There are good things. It's a shame about this afternoon with the race direction's error. »

For this canceled time which could have placed him among the top ten, the Ducati rider claims that there was a green and yellow light sign on each side of the track and that there was no danger in sight. “They canceled my tour even though, yes, there was a yellow sign on the right, but there was a green sign on the left,” explains Zarco. There was no danger because no one was in the gravel. I have to go and discuss this, just so that they at least recognize their mistake, because otherwise, I will always be the one who takes the penalties and says nothing. I can see very well what is happening on the track. I agree that I passed a yellow sign, but when there is a green sign on the left, a yellow sign on the right and no one is in the gravel, it means that at some point there is The stewards made a mistake. We just need to be careful about that so as not to penalize when we shouldn't. »

On Saturday, conditions should allow drivers MotoGP to break the circuit record. “(…) We're going to have to run roughly 1'38, I think, because it's going to be running under 1'39,” confides the Frenchman. I hope I have enough comfort to use the bike properly. A first day not as good as I would have liked, but it will be better tomorrow.

Zarco also points out that the grip on the track is less good than last year: “If I have to compare to last year, for the moment, it’s a small problem.”
