Zarco: “I still have to wait a little”

He thought he had a big chance to play, but Johann Zarco was especially unlucky at the Austrian GP. The Frenchman actually made a mistake in the 18the lap at turn 9, the same as during the warm-up. “ It seems that turn n°9 was not for me today, Zarco said.. I expected to feel a little better during the race. Things felt more under control this weekend, but the conditions were different compared to Saturday and I couldn't find the right feeling. "

Zarco does not really consider that he made a mistake, but rather that he tried not to ride at a false pace. “ I tried to feel more comfortable, he said. I'm sad about what happened, but I accept it. My average in terms of driving allows me to be a good pilot, but I still have to wait a little longer (…). I lost a battle. "

With this blank result, his second of the season with Portugal, he lost two places in the ranking and is now in fourth place, two small points behind Francesco Bagnaia and Joan Mir. “ It's a good lesson, underlined Zarco. But I don't think too much about the championship. Above all, I try to be intelligent when necessary in the race. Maybe unconsciously after this long break... I don't know. We are always at the limit. »

“It will be good to be back at Silverstone”

In ten days, the MotoGP paddock will meet at Silverstone, a circuit absent from the calendar last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. For Zarco, this will be his first time riding the Ducati on the British track. “It will be good to be back at Silverstone, he rejoiced. It's a big circuit and I like it. In the dry, it's always a good race, but if it rains, you'll have to be able to control it. I already know about the tire allocation and it's a good choice for us, especially regarding the front. It will be a matter of adapting very quickly, but I'm doing quite well. »

Ducati has only one victory at Silverstone since the track's return to the calendar in 2010, thanks to Andrea Dovizioso in 2017. Apart from this success, only the same Dovizioso and Danilo Petrucci have appeared on the podium there (in 2015) under the colors of the Bologna factory. On paper, unlike Red Bull Ring, Silverstone is clearly not the circuit that is most successful for Ducati representatives.
