Having been there in 2017, Johann Zarco has seen the arrival of many rookies in the premier category since he became a driver of MotoGP. In 2024, it is Pedro Acosta's turn to take the plunge, and the Spaniard has, to say the least, quickly won unanimous support in the paddock due to his ability to learn and store information.
A work for which he was rewarded with his first podium last weekend in Portugal, thanks to his incisive overtaking of Marc Marquez and Francesco Bagnaia, and the late retirement of Maverick Vinales.
Looking back at the beginnings of the 'Requin de Mazarrón', the Frenchman says he is not surprised, as he expected such performances from the 19-year-old pilot.
“To be honest, it doesn’t surprise me, answers Zarco to a question asked to him during the French GP press conference. I remember his first victories in the world championship, he was simply exceptional.

I said last year that I wanted to win before he arrived on the grid, otherwise it was dead for me, he then jokes. Luckily I managed to do it, I'm happy. Others before him have had this incredible ability to adapt, it is nevertheless very impressive. I don't think it's passion, he has a lot of control over what he does. »
Acosta's first podium allows him to become the third youngest driver to join the box. However, the Gasgas driver can still become the youngest to win. He would then dethrone a certain Marc Marquez.
