After achieving their first podium finish at Rally Castine – Terre d'Occitanie, Sarah Rumeau and Julie Amblard did even better this weekend in Aveyron, winning the Rallye Terre des Causses. The victory was secured in the very last moments of Conner Martell's run for the all-female crew of 2C Compétition, who started the final stage three-tenths of a second behind their sister car. Rumeau and Amblard ultimately won by 5,9 seconds, a relief for the driver.
“I’m really very happy, it feels good to finally put everything together! I had so many difficulties last year. I’m so proud to be in this team, it’s going incredibly well and I have a teammate who pushes me to be better. I really pushed hard on that last stage, I told Julie it was too much! Thank you to her, thank you to 2C, to everyone who makes it possible for me to be here, it’s just fantastic!”
A sentiment shared by Julie Amblard under the sun of the Terre des Causses: “It’s really satisfying. We missed out on the podium every year last year, but this time we were able to capitalize at Castine and arrive here feeling confident. It’s a rally we like; we weren’t necessarily aiming for victory right away, but the teamwork was excellent. It’s a good result for everyone, because we’re lucky to have Conner with us. We share a lot of information, we help each other a lot, and it pays off.”
This is the first time in 40 years, since the 1986 Rallye des 1000 Pistes, that a woman has won the overall classification of an event in the French Gravel Rally Championship; there was Carole Vergnaud, and now there is Sarah Rumeau!
