Adamo: “This WRC season is very strange”

Team principal Andrea Adamo believes these precautions are necessary and that motorsport must be put on hold during this dark period.

“The most important thing is that everyone is well, or at least as best as possible in the face of these circumstances, comments the Team Principal of Hyundai Motorsport. Our company is located in Bavaria, which has been in lockdown since last week. We had to limit our activities, but we took measures in advance before the confinement came into force to react quickly to this situation. The health of our staff is our priority. »

“Our team is made up of 250 people who come from 27 countries and we wanted to allow them to return home before the situation worsens, adds Andrea Adamo. We have implemented teleworking in order to manage our engineering activities as much as possible. There are bigger problems in the world right now than motorsport. »

Andrea Adamo admits that this start to the season was already special even before the spread of the coronavirus.

“I tell myself that this season WRC is very strange, confides the director of Hyundai Motorsport. The only event contested properly was the Monte-Carlo. We had Sweden with its rather unspeakable roads and Mexico which was shortened in the face of the threat of confinement. I can't say I'm happy with these two rounds. We are satisfied with our victory in Monte-Carlo, but we suffered in the last two with reliability problems in Mexico which really upset me. »

Although Hyundai Motorsport's activity is slow, the team still provides support to its customers through its Customer Racing department. The facility has not had any positive coronavirus cases so far.
