Adrien Fourmaux after the Sardinia Rally: “I’m so disappointed”

Author of an impressive performance in sometimes daunting conditions, Adrien Fourmaux only had 7,79 km to go to achieve superb success in WRC2. A portion of aquaplaning decided otherwise.

Adrien Fourmaux after the Sardinia Rally: “I’m so disappointed”

What is your feeling after this race where you achieved incredible performances before making a mistake in the last kilometers?

I am very mixed, because we had carried out a rally madness. Although the conditions were complicated, we didn't get nervous at first. Our day on Saturday had been very solid and on Sunday morning we decided to ride in the first and the 3e, because I knew the special well and I like it. For the one used by the Power Stage, however, we were wary. I drowned my engine in it during another edition. We were quietly waiting when we saw the images of the first cars in the rain. Even in the North we don't have one like that. We were 31” ahead of Andreas Mikkelsen so we chose to start very cautiously.

But then what happened?

I accepted losing time on the first kilometers when it was very tricky, but after passing a sky (an uphill and blind passage in rally jargon. Editor's note) we started a very bumpy descent. The car began to understeer. I was in 2nd and we must have been at 30 or 40 km/h. My Soft tires were completely dead and we aquaplaned into the rail with the front. The rear suddenly came off the rail, I applied a little throttle to bring it back, but it didn't want to know anything, I braked, but I had no grip at the rear . This took us to the shoulder where there was a rock that tore off the suspension. It's not like we were going too fast or that I was messing up. I am so disappointed. My emotions go yo-yo... Sometimes I laugh about it, sometimes I cry about it...

You had a great rally so far…

I think we deserved to win. There was everyone and in such a complicated rally, we were at the front. We were ahead of 4 Skodas and I had to go out on something really bad where it didn't really matter.

“It's not like we were too fast or if I was doing anything wrong” Oh well, and how did the others do it? Fourmaux, Loubet same observation, dismaying.
