Adrien Fourmaux: “I try to stay positive”

The M-Sport team has announced that it will only be represented by two cars in New Zealand (Craig Breen and Fergus Greensmith) for the 11e round of the season. The Frenchman will not make the trip to Auckland. “ We discussed it during the rally of Acropolis, detailed the Northerner. They explained to me that they thought there was little chance that this event would be on the 2023 calendar... and that we had to keep the budget to do something else. I accepted. They suggested that I go anyway, but without doing the reconnaissance. I preferred to decline to keep this time available to carry out very good preparation rather than going sightseeing in New Zealand. »

Fourmaux: “I think I am below my capabilities”

After missing two races, the Frenchman could be defeated, but the latter has another approach. “ I'm not stupid, he says, I know full well that I am in a very difficult situation. I try to stay positive, to put things into perspective. It was already like this last year and my program was only decided in November…but it is true that I have no results to rely on to claim something next year. I can't say that what I did this season is good. There are positive points, but it's complicated and at some point the results have to speak. I'm realistic, that's not the case. » If plans don't change before the Catalonia rally, Fourmaux intends to try to take advantage of it.

« I don't want to go there in "this is my last chance" mode, but on the contrary to have fun and get a good position, because I need it. I'm getting tired of either having to finish 7e or when it happens although there are things that happen. I need to show my speed, as I have often been asked to finish. I think I'm below my capabilities. I tell myself that if this is going to stop, it might as well be a good impression. I'm going to prepare like never before. With Alex (Coria his co-pilot), we work on the notes, the announcements, the rhythm... and for my part I work a lot on my physical condition, my mind, my concentration... The goal is to arrive at full strength for Spain. I have no choice anyway. Until it's completely over, you still have to believe in it. Catalonia will therefore be an important meeting. » The penultimate round being scheduled in a month (October 20-23), this gives him time to properly prepare for what could be his final race for M-Sport in 2022. And for later?

The sick pressure he has on his shoulders! The worst of the worst is that when I think about his next rally I don't ask myself what good result he will be able to achieve, but when he will come out?
