Andrea Adamo: “A moment to cherish”

He was moved Andrew Adam at the end of the Rally from Monza. On his land, the truculent boss of Hyundai Motorsport fulfilled its contract: namely to retain the world crown of Manufacturers in WRC, acquired in 2019, and defended at the end of the suspense last weekend against the Toyota Gazoo Racing.

However, the task did not seem to be a good one for the Italian and his troops. The rapid abandonment of Thierry Neuville Friday had taken away precious ammunition from the Korean firm, which had almost only the Manufacturers' coronation to play for at Monza, the delay of the Belgian andOtt Tänak in the Drivers ranking being too important to aim for the cup on a regular basis.

But the story ultimately turned in Hyundai's favor when Elfyn Evans made a mistake on Saturday, almost leaving Sébastien Ogier alone against Tänak and Dani Sordo. The Estonian and the Spaniard will finally score enough points for their employer on Sunday.

“Monza is so emotional for me and brings back a lot of personal memories, Adamo blurted out after the finish. Since my arrival on Wednesday, I have had so many emotions on my mind. It was a difficult year and we know how many challenges there have been in the world and I had to make sure our team was supported throughout the season.

Coming to Monza and winning our second title is simply wonderful and a moment to cherish. Before the Power Stage I said it was like U2 singing Faraway, So Close, well now it's Beautiful Day.

Every member of the team put in incredible effort to make the best of the situation and improve our performance. We started strong in Monte Carlo – a truly special moment for all of us – and since we returned after the summer we have been very competitive.

We knew we had to make the most of smaller events and we returned to the top of the championship on the basis of merit, performance, perseverance and hard work. I am proud to lead such an incredible team and carry the Hyundai flag in motorsport. »

The only regret for Hyundai is the Drivers' crown, which once again eludes the Koreans. Revenge in 2021?
