At the head of Rally from Japan with a lead of just under 18 seconds over Sébastien OgierElfyn Evans appears to have done the hard part, after a day in which he conceded nothing to the Frenchman. Moreover, with Oliver Solberg's retirement at midday, Evans has a clear path to extend his championship lead. He remains focused, however, on the outcome of this Rally Japan, as the slightest mistake could prove costly against the nine-time French world champion, who is lying in wait.

“It was a good day for us. There were two stages I wasn’t happy with, but overall it was still a solid day. I haven’t thought about the championship yet; I’m sorry for Oliver to see him out, but these things happen. We don’t have a huge gap to the cars behind us, so we’ll need to keep this momentum going on Sunday.”

Indeed, if the accounting situation is favorable to the crew of the Toyota Driving the GR Yaris Rally1 #33, Elfyn Evans knows that Sunday won't be a walk in the park, especially given the "Super Sunday" regulations. Solberg will be back on track this Sunday, and he could still score up to ten points, which would help him limit the damage against Evans and the rest of the field.

"Since there are also many points up for grabs at Super Sunday, we will need to maintain a very strong and fast pace."Evans concluded into our microphone.
